How Hotels Are Changing

In response to the pandemic, hotels are changing their ways in order to adhere to guidelines and keep guests and staff safe. The next time you travel, you’ll probably see many of these changes in place.

Enhanced Cleaning

The first thing hotels are implementing… more cleaning. Marriott as well as many other hotels are now requiring the use of hospital grade disinfectants both in public spaces as well as guest rooms. Hotels are implementing a new position called “hygiene managers” who’s main job is to ensure the sanitization of the hotel. Many resorts & hotels are testing out new cleaning measures such as ultraviolet-light technology and  electrostatic sprayers. Housekeepers used to be discreet and rarely seen, expect to see housekeeping take a step into the spotlight amid the pandemic. No longer will they be behind the seems but in the lobby constantly cleaning, refilling hand-sanitizer that will be stationed around the hotel and keeping us safe.

New Protocol

Expect to see some new protocol in place which may be jarring at first but in the end it is to keep us safe. First thing you may notice is that bellhop will be wearing PPE. Some hotels may require temperatures to be taken upon arrival. The check in process may also look a bit different with credit cards being taken before arrival as to not have it handled by multiple people. In addition, check in and check out may also soon take to the phone via app in order to minimize face to face contact. Digital keys via phone app may also be making an appearance to eliminate key cards.

Room Amenities

Unfortunately for the environment, we may see a change back over to single-use toiletry bottles. Expect to also see a change in decor including the possible elimination of throw pillows, bed runners, magazines & pamphlets. Expect to also see some sort of seal to indicate a room has been cleaned.  Some hotels are implementing a policy that when a guest checks out staff will not enter for 24 hours and there will be a 72 hour window before the next guest can check in.

Public Spaces

In public spaces, expect to see social distancing measures enforced. Dining tables will maintain 6 feet between parties. Also, expect to see an increased number of attendants in the fitness center to ensure equipment is disinfected between uses. In the spa, staff will also be wearing PPE, as well as a limited spa menu to cut down  on the spread of germs.
